Sir Alex Ferguson is confident that Arsenal ace Robin van Persie will snub moves to Manchester City and Juventus in favor of a transfer to Manchester United. Ferguson is hoping the Holland international will line up alongside Wayne Rooney next season to form a deadly strike partnership capable of winning back the title.
Mirror Football reports that Ferguson has “told footballing friends he believes van Persie will be moving to Old Trafford, despite the interest of money-bags Premier League champions Manchester City and Italian league winners Juventus.”
Despite a disappointing Euro 2012 campaign with Holland, van Persie was named last season’s Player of the Year, the PFA Players’ Player of the Year, and featured in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year after scoring 30 Premier League goals for Arsenal.
However, the 28-year-old announced earlier this month that he would not signing a new deal at the Emirates. He has since attracted the attention of several big clubs, but is believed to be most tempted by a move to Old Trafford.
Although Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will be keen to hold onto van Persie for another year, the club will be keen to sell before the striker leaves for free when his contract comes to an end at the end of next season.
Whether or not United really will stump up the rumored £20 million fee for a 28-year-old remains to be seen.
